Differentiating between creativity and innovation understanding the difference
The former creates a lot of ideas and the latter lots of money, the creator create ideas innovators take them to market.
1. just because you are creative does not mean you are innovative
2. just because you can think deeply and creatively does it mean you will think the right things?
3. just because you are innovative does not mean you have an innovation strategy
4. solid innovation strategies are collaborative (concept to production)
5. creativity can be singular or collaborative – but you need a collaborative group of more than one person to take the creative concept and to innovate it
However you could argue that one leads the other, the external environment forces (pulls) the need for technological advancement (innovation) and this breeds creativity. On the other hand creative flair creates a product that is then pushed into the market place through innovative processes (including innovative marketing strategies) – often it’s not the product that is innovative it’s the process and marketing strategy that is. |
